Reporting when entering a hold

You are not "established" when you cross the fix the first time, you are entering. Whether it be a parallel, direct, or teardrop entry, the first "turn" in the holding pattern is the entry turn. You are not established until you cross the holding fix the second time.

That's not what you report.

5-3-3. Additional Reports
a. The following reports should be made to ATC or FSS facilities without a specific ATC request:
1. At all times.
f) The time and altitude or flight level upon reaching a holding fix or point to which cleared.
(g) When leaving any assigned holding fix or point
The required report is for "reaching a holding fix" -- that's the first time you cross, regardless of which way you're pointed or which time of entry you'll use.
