Fly around the world

http://www.worldflyers.org/

About a year ago I applied for this program. I never heard back, my guess is that the flight was canceled for whatever reason. I checked the website just out of curiosity and it looks like they're trying to do it again. It's a pricey way to build multi time, but I imagine you would learn a heck of a lot more on a trip like that than you would flying circles around your local airport. Kind of makes we wish I didn't already have a flying job. I could talk myself into this pretty easily.

Would anyone spend 25K to fly around the world? I'm just guessing on the following #s. If the trip was 120 hours flight time and you split that between 3 pilots. That would be 40 hours as the flying pilot and another 40 possible as safety pilot. That would be 312 per hour. Is that premium worth the experience?

I dunno if it would be worth it in the dollars and cents department but in the what the heck you only live once department I'd say tear it up. The good thing about money is if you spend all you have you can make more, but if you spend all your years of living not living well you can't make any more.

After looking at the site I have to say that given the time and the spare cash...I would do it. I know 2 people well that own 340's as well as one with a 414 and one with a 421. If I were able to talk to them into the flight as well as splitting the costs it would end up more than they are charging as well as the incredible unknown as far as having never flown the route or knowing all of the logistics. I would imagine that planning a flight like this would take months.

It would certainly make a good conversation piece at an interview as well.

I know a handful of people that have spent upwards of $50K each to do an around the world cruise... 2 1/2 months at sea with dozens of ports of call. I don't see how that's much different-

If you have the time and money, I imagine that it would be an incredible experience.

Maybe apply to be the Instructor, put that MEI back to good use and get paid 4,000 to fly around the world.
