Cost of Type Ratings
Hey Guys,
Just curious as to the cost of type ratings these days. Not serious about getting one, just curious.
King Air 350?
MD11/DC10?
737?
757/767?
Dash8?
CRJ900?
777?
A320?
FEX license?

Typical GA corporate jet or turboprop type runs between $15K and $45K, with an average around $20-25K.
CRJ PIC types can be had for as low as $5,000 if you have experience in type and know where to look. 737 types are about $7K on average and are probably the cheapest "big airplane" type ratings out there.
Some of the other types you're simply going to have a hard time acquiring "off the street" since "joe public" doesn't exactly have a need for a 777 type. On average, I'd guesstimate that each person that an airline sends through training costs about $15-20K when all costs (sim, ground, travel, hotel, etc) are factored in.

After I was furloughed from Indy, I used WIA funds at Pan Am International Flight Academy in Dulles to get my PIC type. That location is still closed now, but if you are a current and qualifed FO, you might try contacting one of the other locations and seeing if they have an approved "short course".
That said, if you're flying as an FO now, why would you pay $5K for a type rating that the airline will pay for? I did the course because without it (and the associated ATP), odds are I would be back at another regional still looking for an upgrade.
