ATP Ride W/O Meeting Mins

I've read that you can take the ATP checkride even if you haven't met the minimums yet and, if you do, you'll be given the certificate once you bring your times up. Is that accurate? What would you have to do, just submit an 8710 to the FSDO showing your times?

The only thing I've ever heard of is taking the checkride before turning 23 and it converting when you hit the age. I would think you'd need the flight times to do the ride otherwise. What's the rush if you don't meet the mins anyway?

I'm going to be getting my AMES in a few weeks, and they train through ATP... I figured if I'm taking the checkride anyway, might as well make it count for all it's worth.

You could always call them and ask...

Let us know the answer, but I think you're out of luck.

I've got a ATP-MES, it don't count for much.

It'll look good for a seaplane operator. Why pass up an opportunity to get another rating? I wouldn't mind having more ATPs on my resume than the next guy. I'm getting the MES anyway, so if what I heard is true, I might as well do it... It would be a wasted opportunity if I didn't.

I got bored. Here's the FAA Inspectors handbook.

http://fsims.faa.gov/PICResults.aspx...regulation=all

Decoding FAA speak, it looks like the way the FAA counts SIC and FE towards the 1500 TT requirement doesn't make ICAO happy. And the FAA will grant the ATP with less than the required hours of PIC. But I see no relief if you don't have 1500 hours.

True about ICAO. You need far more actual PIC to qualify for ICAO...if you don't have it, then your FAA ATP will have a limitation stating that it is not valid for international flying. You can also substitute a very large amount of 121 SIC time for some of the ICAO PIC.

Low-timers have problems upgrading at many jet regionals for this reason.
