Multi Engine License

Hi, I am a freshmen in high school, and am working on my PPL. I was curious if I should get my Multi Engine Rating in high school, or wait to do so when I get into Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Focus on the PPL right now, you can't get it until you are at least 17 anyway. Wait until you go to Riddle for the multi, it is part of the tuition there. I would highly recommend getting at least the instrument before going to the multi stuff because doing the multi VFR only is going to be fairly useless and waste your money. Get a few hours under your belt first.

Unless your parents have more money than brains, I would highly recommend choosing another college. Embry-Riddle is WAAAAY overpriced. Go to a good state university and get your ratings at your local airport.

UND is ALOT cheaper by far especially when you get the instate tuition that you can NOT get at ERAU. Yes the weather is nice, but that is no reason to go there.

No need to worry about flying now. Drink beer and chase women, you'll have plenty of time for flying later.

You don't need a degree in aviation to be a pilot. Many choose to major in a second area of personal interest as a fall back degree. As far as flight training, I'd get started at 16 and do as much as you have time and money for while still in school. That's how I did it.

DO NOT GET A DEGREE IN AVIATION!!!!!! Its a waste of time and money. Get a diffrent degree and fly on the side. See this thread http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/showthread.php?t=4318

and read it carefully there is hundreds of years of experience in there. USE IT.

Absolutely avoid overpriced aviation universities. If your a freshman in HS and working on your PPL, you are way ahead of the game. Get your instrument rating next and take it from there. I would think about other backgrounds besides flying when it comes to college. It is nice to have a field that is unrelated to flying --- you may need it! Plus it rounds you out as a person, not to mention a vastly improved social scene that you will not find at Riddle.
