SAA in San Diego as a CFI
Looking at SAA in San Diego as a possible place of employment.
I'm in need of more money then what one would get at a Pt. 61 school. Going that route and it SUCKS! So if anyone has any info they would like to pass along or currently works there that would be great. I gotta stay in CA so the big schools in AZ and FL are not an option. |
I worked and trained there a number of years ago. I have no idea what their payscale is like these days, but they were pretty good people. They have twins, and a growing corporate jet operation, which CFI's have been known to slide into.

Thanks very much for the info.

Any idea how hard up they are for instructors? With the way things are going, after school I'd like to move back home and teach there if the airlines aren't hiring.

i also inquired with them about cfi position... on their site it says looking for full time mei which is what i am lookin for... i also hear they do jaa licensing, is their any way to work that in and possibly convert my licenses at a discounted cost while working there? i am currently in sac instructing for atp and i wouldnt mind moving to saa if they had housing and whatnot... anyone else have any information?

I sent them an email a few weeks back inquiring about discounted JAA conversions for their CFIs, but never heard anything back.

Worked out of the same office last year. Seemed like a legit place, planes were in good shape.
The students have problems reading notices on classroom doors that the rooms are reserved for someone else...they knock and come right in, see unfamiliar faces, and then exit. Thats about my only gripe. My advice: Gillespie is kind of like Van Nuys...nice airport, but you probably want to live a good 5 miles from it. |
talked to the JAA chief pilot and operations manager there.. he was real nice but it sounded like he was telling me it would be a waste of time and money to try converting to jaa which i was kinda bummed about but other than that he was saying they are in need of mei full time or part time cause i guess another school with a bunch of chinese students fell through and they are coming to SAA to finish up all their multi-engine flying.. sounds like instructors make anywhere from $1800-$2300 a month
