:confused:I rescently visit the ATP flight school campous it was a good but the only down fall is that the REGIONAL is not HIRING!!!! thats almost everywhere. The instructor and others beeen there 2+ yrs and I was thinking to myself do i want to take this route? I want to and love to fly but if I spend about $60,000 plus for a school and dont get hired till about years later it dont seems like I am getting my money worth, and i know i have to build up my flight hrs etc etc but the instructor had plenty of hrs. The guy was truthful he said he could get a job with Colgan but he wouldnt take it b/c of the pay, me personaly if that was me i would take it b/c I love flying, but he had more to look at b/c he had family but I am only 20yrs old.

Right now i attend a Medical School to be a Radiologic Technologist while attending the school i went out to get my PPL also. Since the Regional is not hiring i hope to finish school and then try to become a Pilot but am not sure this is the right descion...????

Seriously, you should probably use more punctuation in the title next time.

You should finish school and then see how the industry is. In spite of current events, this isn't necessarily a bad time to get involved with flying if your sure it's what you want to do and you understand the sacrifices. That said, a solid fall back is really important. So, stick with med school and fly on the side if you can.

ATP is overpriced and getting all those ratings in 90 days doesn't seem prudent to me. If you change your mind, though, ATP will always be there, as will a flying career.

One close to where your med school is. There are small flight schools at many local airports everywhere.

DeVry has a med school? :eek: We all make mistakes, but you seriously need check your grammar and spelling! Attention to detail matters in medicine AND aviation.

Get your 4 year degree, thats what you should do. Its just recently that the path to the right seat of a shinny jet was short and easy. This career has always been about paying your dues early and reaping the benefits later. But I would never recommend to anyone to enter into flying without an education. The majors require it and it gives you a fall back in case of furloughs. ATP is expensive, but all flight schools are.

Pilot mills like ATP are sufficiently more expensive than other forms of training to make their use questionable in a soft job market. Aspiring pilots need to be careful about accruing debt even in strong markets. The way to do this is to find flying clubs, fixed base operators, individuals or institutions that offer training services and use them while taking minimum (preferrably zero) loans to fund it. This approach cuts the cost of training by 50% or more, and actually improves the chance of success by reducing the stress of entering a business where the starting pay is notoriously low. From what I hear, airlines do not care where you obtain your flight training as long as it consists of the specified hours of experience.
