Examiner for commercial checkride

Hey everyone,

I am going to be ready soon to take my commercial checkride, but the examiner in my area (San Luis Obispo, CA) just recently retired. We now have no examiners in the area. I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good, fair examiner, preferably in the Southern California area (LA is the furthest south I'd like to go). Thanks!

Are you familiar with the LAX airspace??? if you're not, stay away from that mess. I think you're better off driving north in search of an examiner. You already have enough stuff to worry about (manuevers, checklists, etc) don't waste any energy worrying about controlled airspace bounderies, practice-area safe zones, antennas, and the 100 aircraft flying around the LA area. That airspace is way too congested for a checkride if you're not familiar.

The last thing I want to hear in the middle of a stall during a checkride is...... " cessna #####, you have multiple targets in your vicinity"

If you are in the north county San Diego area (KCRQ) look up either Russ Defrancesco or Pat Hill. I have done multiple rides with both of them and found them both to be personable and fair, notice I didnt mention cheap.

I think they would be worth the flight down. If you do a search for DPEs or something along those lines they both come up.
