Expected Cost for training

I have searched for this but I wasn't able to find the exact answer.

Anyways, a little background info of myself... I hope to be a commercial airline pilot someday. I'm planning to start the training soon. I already have a 4-year college degree so I'm just looking to get the training.

Based on a little research that I've done for a local FBO, up to multiple engine rating, I should expect to spend about $36k total. Does this sound reasonable? And I'd like to know how much you guys spent and how much I should expect to spend later on as well.

EDIT: Also, it'd be great if anybody has any information on airlines that provide training. I think Korean Air provides full training from PPL but I'm not sure. If so, I'd be willing to move there.

36K sounds about right and is a good ballpark figure. I guess it's location, location, location. The training facility that I've chosen is going to run in the neighborhood of about 50K. This is from PPL to CFII/MEII. It includes housing. Training manuals, checkrides and like will be a little extra.

I live in SE Florida.

As far as KAL providing training from the PPL, I don't know.

In case it can benefit anyone, here is how I went from zero time to Comm ASEL/AMEL, IRA, CFI/II:

Private: Part 61 FBO, Sheridan, WY
Instrument: Part 61 FBO, Pacoima, CA
Comm ASEL: Part 61 FBO, Pacoima, CA
Comm AMEL: Part 61 FBO, Van Nuys, CA
CFI/II: American Flyers, Santa Monica, CA

Total time: 1 year, 10 months
Total cost: $39,154.41

I never used the sim for anything, and I accomplished all the ratings with pretty close to the minimum required times. However, I did do most of my training in the expensive Los Angeles area. Conclusion: ATP is overpriced. Take your time and enjoy it.

I would love to go to one of those schools but I can't afford them. Even FBO training costs are quite a bit of burden for me. :(

I also live in L.A. area. In fact, my place is only about 5 minutes from LAX! Great place to be if you're an aviation enthusiast. I sometimes go to Imperial Hill to do some plane spotting. Gotta love the awesome weather out here. Sorry I digress...

So I'm guessing I'll be training in one of the FBO's in either Santa Monica or Long Beach. I'd like to get some money saved before though. Do you have any recommendations for FBO's?

Check out Justice Aviation at KSMO. They used to have at least one good instructor. :cool:

Yea, I've looked at their site and actually based my numbers on what they had posted. They seem pretty cool. I'm planning to pay a visit sometime soon.

i would go to a local fbo, find a good cfi that wants to fly a lot, with cheap airplane and instructor costs and go with them. study your balls off too. know the times that you'll need for each certificate and plan accordingly. this will keep the cost down.
