I don't know anything about the school, but the Aerospace Department Head from my school, Indiana State University, just left to accept the Assistant Dean position there. He is a great guy and will do anything for the program to make it better than it already is I'm sure.

When my community college was on the verge of no longer offering aviation technology as a major I applied and got accepted to Utah Valley... But haven't had to leave my community college yet so thats as far as i got. I applied there cause I thought it'd have some great scenery to fly over

I actually used to instruct there. It is a really good school if you keep up on your end of the deal. Getting your ratings on time (before finals) affects your grades for certain classes if you are doing their aviation science degree. All in all not a bad school. I don't know how long you've lived in Utah but wintertime flying can get pretty rough out here. This entire summer we've had about 5 or 6 bad weather days but in the winter you can count on at least a months worth of flying to be affected. PM me or ask on here if you have any specific questions. Oh ya, there's a LOT of cute girls in Provo too so that's always a perk.

I went to school there. Finished up In December of last year. I did most of my flight training at through (then) UVSC at the Provo Airport. In March of last year when I finished my commercial licence, I took a flying job in California. I finished up my last two semesters online. They offer traditional (classroom) and online versions of most of their classes.

They operate mostly Diamond aircraft. Most of the instructors are very good. The training is part 61, but they do things very similar to 141, like stage checks.

Someone mentioned the scenery. It's beautiful, the airport is right next to Utah lake. There are big mountains all around. During the winter there will be a few days where it's solid IMC. The other seasons you can fly almost everyday. Provo/Orem is a total college town and it was a fun place to go to school.

One big benefit of going to a flight school associated with a college or university is it makes getting financial aid a lot easier.

If all you want is to get you ratings you might be better off at an accelerated program like ATP, or even your local FBO. If you want to earn a four year degree at the same time you do your flight training I think UVSC/UVU is a very good option.

I finished up my 4 yr degree there through the global aviation program last year. It was great because the local 4 yr university's tuition is astronomical compared to UVU. That and it was to far to drive to other 4 yr schools in neighboring cities while holding down a decent steady job. Never set a foot on campus. Once I became a CFI, I was able to use my CFI job towards internship credits. It's a great program, but you have to be pretty self motivated for the online courses. I didn't get much help from the advisers though when it came to figuring out what classes I needed to graduate, graduation paperwork deadlines, etc. I had to find all of that stuff on my own.

Also, both captains that interviewed me at SkyWest were Wolverine alumni. I got the job, not just because of that, but it was a great conversation starter... still don't have a class date though.

Default UVU (uvsc)

UVSC was a state college and was upgraded to a university back in July. If you have a degree from UVSC you can have it changed to reflect UVU. I have been going there (on-line) for 5 years and don't have anything negative to say other than the tuition being a little high (about $160 a credit). To save money, get all of your certs and ratings and then enroll and challenge a lot of the classes (up to 30 credits). You can't challenge classes once you've already enrolled. It is nice going on-line but you have to keep on top of it or you will fall behind.

I used to instruct there, and from what I've seen, they have a good program, good planes, good maintenance, good personel, but bad weather during the winter. I would have stayed longer there to instruct, but because it snows 4 days out of the week during the winter months, it makes it hard to learn. But go during the warmer months and you'll love it. Just my two cents
