ATP Written at ALLATPs Dallas
 

I'm headed to some simulator training in Dallas in early November and will have the opportunity to take my APT Checkride in the Sim. I was wondering if anyone has done the written at one of the two Dallas locations that can provide any insight.

Can the average pilot walk in there without studying and pass the test after staring at questions for ten hours or do I need to really study the Gleim for the next month (Which I was planning on doing any way).

Are there any other similar testing locations in the area that are less expensive?

I took my ATP written at the Phoenix location. I studied before hand and got a good score. There was another guy in there that did not study at all, and he still passed.

If you do it at ALLATPs, the question bank is reduced to about 520 questions. If you have a good memory then you shouldn't have to study, but if you want to get a good score I recommend studying before you go.

Thanks for the replys guys. I found another thread after I posted this one and everyone said the same thing as you all did. Spend a couple days studying before hand and then take the test. I've looked into the Shepard Air program but already have the Gleim so I'll save the 75 odd bucks and just read the book.

No study before and took about 4 hours on their computer before I took the test, got a 92

I did the AllATP's thing years ago with zero prep and got a 96. If i had to do it over again I would go with Sheppard Air. I did my FE written with them and got a 100% with minimal effort.

BTW I have the King FE Written DVD set for sale if anyone is interested in some torture. I couldn't watch more then 15 minutes before I gave up and called Sheppard.

Took the written today. Nice folks at the Arlington location. Kind of a sleeply little spot but it got the job done. I read the study unit notes in the Gleim this past week, focusing mostly on the 121 section, then spent 9 hours reviewing the 571ish questions. Got a 96%, only took about 35 minutes from start to finish, reviewing every answer after the first time through. Todays prep plus the Gleim studying probably totaled 14 hours of studying. There were two or three questions on the test that weren't in the prep software. Not sure yet if those were the ones I missed.
