Im just curious, do you have to be unemployed to get WIA benefits or just want more training so I can fly bigger and better planes? Also, my dad has his private and about 450hrs, im a cfi, could we get WIA to pay for his inst, se comm and possibly a type of his cfi? Thanks in advance.

Some states will pay for primary training though Comm-multi but it has to be at an approved school. Where I live it Cracks me up they will pay X amount toward primary but wont pay for any type ratings unless you have a job offer in hand and they will only pay for the A-320 or the 737.

Im in Gainesville so that would be Alachua County. Does anybody know who to contact in FL about this? Would this be a state level contact up in tally or someone at the county level?

Im in South Florida and have been working at this since Sept. It's been useless. The training facility has to be on the approved training list for the state. The paperwork they have to fill out is outrageous and lenthy. From what I've learned is the training facilities do not have the time nor the personnel to take on this task. It's very sad, this is what I've been dealing with in S. FL. I would think these training facilities would want to be on the list since these are guaranteed monies from the government, but what do I know...Good luck to all.....

It's not quite that simple. I actually tried to get on the Authorized Training Providers list in the State of Florida and was told that because we weren't located in Florida that our assistance wasn't required. I have run into this issue in other states as well. Some states have flat out told me that they aren't interested in giving money for pilot training right now and would rather focus on industries such as healthcare or teaching. You are right though, the paperwork can be quite lenghty. It varies so much from state to state that it's ridiculous.

That being said, my company is on the list for several other states. If you need some information or maybe just a point in the right direction, please feel free to email me at [email protected].

I went through Higher Power and the have the stuff together as far as getting guys on WIA funds through their program. I think m 73 type cost my $1,000 out of pocket in addition to my hotel and food. Its a good quick program, though what are you going to do with a 73 type in this economy?

Is there anyone on here who has gone through Palm Beach County to obtain funds for training (WIA)???

I just completed all of the local classes and paperwork to find out that there is a list of approved schools and nothing aviation related! Any help at all would be great.
