ATP Alumni - Please HELP!

Hello,
I am debating whether or not to go to ATP for the rest of my licenses (will have my private license soon). I will have to enroll in their self-paced program since I also have to work full time. Please give me any input you can. Good or bad.

Thank you!

-Lily

Lily,

I did the self-paced at Bowling Green. Started in December '07 and finished September '08. What location are you thinking about going to? It was a pretty fun program, I kind of breezed along through my instrument training because I already had my rating when I started.

Honestly though, finish your Private wherever you are, and then see if the airlines are hiring yet. (Assuming thats the route you want to go) Otherwise, you would be better off saving your money and having a more flexible schedule at your FBO.

Also, winter time is coming up. So depending on where you want to do your training, it may get a little big difficult getting flight time because of icing and whatnot. I know that for me, I got a lot of one-on-one time with the simulator during the winter months at BWG. But if you're not flying, the instructors will probably be hammering you to study for your written exams. So you will definately be busy.

Keep the questions coming!

I never went to ATP, but I instructed there for awhile. I honestly liked the program that they had. Yes it was expensive, but the FBO I teach at right now is quoting people at 70,000! That is really expensive too!

Hi lily, I am a former ATP student and instructor. I can honestly say that it is a good porgram as long as you get a good instructor. It is about the same way anywhere, make sure you go into the actual location you are going to attend and interview not only the school, but the instructors as well. Having an instructor that you mesh well with plays a huge part in the quality of flight training that you will be receiving. Study hard and keep focused and I believ the ATP program to be about the best you can do as far as bang for your buck. It is very intense and you need to make sure that you are ready that you are ready to learn!

what if i dont want to go to airlines. Is it stupid to go to atp?

ATPs prices are extremely inflated, given the fact that the price of fuel has dropped dramatically.

Go elsewhere, until they lower their prices.
