ATPL with sic B737 type rating!

Hi guys,

I am currently flying the B737-3/4/5 in Africa and have a FAA sic B737 type rating on my FAA license.

I have over 2200hrs and over 1500hrs on the B737 type and would like to do my ATPL on this type, can I do it during my recurrent training due in a week.

Thanks for your kind replies.

Mukki,

Since you are speaking of an FAA Certificate, recurrent training is normally an "approved" program of training. The check-airman/APD would not normally be able to "free-lance".

In order for you to hold an ATP with an B737 Pilot-in-command Type Rating you will need to attend your carriers "approved" upgrade training program or find a certified school to do this.

If you DO find an upgrade program on the B737, it will also count as recurrent though...at least, that's how our programs work.

At that point Z you are not completing a "re-current" but rather initiating upgrade training which is a whole new (and completley different approved training event) and re-setting your base month for training as well.

True, but it DOES recycle currency ;) Most reputable schools will want you to do the Upgrade while you are still current though too and/or will want you to have flown the aircraft in the preceeding 12 months. I get calls all the time for people who want to do the upgrade (or recurrent) in the A320, B737, or CRJ who haven't flown the aircraft in like 5 years, and then ask why the class can't be 3 days long...sigh...

Need Advice Please!!!

Hi Guys,

I have over 2200hrs on the B737 like I said earlier and still currently flying the B737-300/400/500 actively.

A training provider in Texas told me I would have to do the whole type rating again if I want to get my ATPL on my FAA License.

Sadly I did do my last FAA Recency here with my FAA commercial License in february 2008 but completely forgot about my ATP.

I am currently in Dallas and trying to figure out what to do.

Any advise would help. A whole new type is expensive.

Thanks fella's.

Try CPT(Crew Pilot Training). They will get you a type rating on a 737 wihtin 10 days for $7k and they are in Dallas.

mukki, who are you flying for in Africa and what kind of a schedule is it? Just curious because I also live in Dallas and am looking for a new job. Thanks.

ARIK AIRLINES out of Lagos for now... and I'm still in Dallas.
