Mountain State University

I tried searching for Info on Mountain State University but did not find any.

I am currently enrolled in their online B.S. Aviation degree program and plan on finishing in the summer. I got the new AOPA flight training magazine in the mail today and noticed they are not aviation accredited.

My questions are:

Will not having an aviation accredited degree matter when going for a job with the majors?

Will it affect getting accepted into a graduate program later?

Thanks!

That's unfortunate to hear as I was also going to pursue an Aviation Degree from MSU.

However, I would imagine any non-accredited degree would make the hoops a little more difficult to jump through... for whatever reason.

I sent an email to an Enrollment Coordinator at MSU and he just said that “MSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.” My question was about the B.S. in Aviation, and the response is rather general…

Can someone help me clarify, are whole schools accredited or just specific degrees?

Whole schools are accredited. Specific departments may have their own accreditation on top of that, the importance of which depends on the industry. Business...very important. Aviation, nobody cares. Just make sure you go to a nice big State School. Remember, most Airline pilots don't even have an Aviation degree. "Aviation Accreditation" is just some B.S. schools like ERAU made up to charge $40,000/year and sway you from the cheap schools.

Mountain State is an accredited school. I looked into it since I'm taking classes there too. You can wikipedia it to learn about the history of the school.

So a Bachelors from MSU will ‘check the box’ where needed for what ever job?

I looked into MSU but I am wondering why you guys chose it? Credits are over $280 an hour it looks like, which is more expensive than ERAU online and Utah Valley as well. Everglades looks to be the most expensive.

I applied there a few years back for college, didn't get a good impression. I got accepted but never intended to go there anyways. I never heard so much as anything from them even after I sent my grades and licenses. I thought that was incredibly unprofessional. I emailed them back, they told me they had my stuff and to call adviser. I left a message and they never called me back. I don't know if you accept a student especially in a specialized field like aviation where you will spend 200+ per credit, you'd think someone would follow up with the applicants intentions....

They don't charge for transfer of credits/certificates. ERAU/UV only allow a certain number of licenses where at MSU it's almost twice as much for free. MSU is great for those who already have college credit an associates because the unlimited transfer for free policy saves a lot of time and money especially for the FAA licenses which are up to like 40 credits. That's almost 1/4 of the degree and if you have an AS, you can get a BS in about one year or more.

I am transferring in at least 81 credits to ERAU online and working on more at a community college for 1/4 the price which seems to be a pretty good deal. UVU would only give me 70 credits and I had to pay to transfer credits. Everglades was over $500 per credit. I havent looked into anything else.
