Flight School with a lot of Chinese students
 

Hello every one, i'm new to this forum.

Let me introduce myself a little,
i'm a Taiwanese, about finishing my multi-comm training, and really like to stay in US as a CFI.

Right now, i'm trying to find a decent school to get my CFI ticket, and hopefully could get hire at the same school after finished CFI training.

My ideal school is one have lots of Chinese students(who usually have difficulty in communicating with intructors), and willing to hire their own CFI graduates, decent pay would be a Huge plus, though i don't expect that.

I know in this industry, the point is who you know,
and that's the reason i had this post here, i don't have any connection here in US, so please everyone throw out something, anything would help, thanks in advance.

BTW, i have us residency, and open to relocate to anywhere in this country.

You could try Falcon Aviation Acadamy based near Atanta, GA. Was there not too long ago and they mentioned they had just struck a deal with Air China to train some of their students.

I don't know the school names, but there used to be plenty of Chinese students in the patterns at KRNM in San Diego and KBFL (Bakersfield, CA).

Pan Am Academy (now called TransPac Aviation Academy) does a lot of training for Chinese students. They're based at Deer Valley DVT in Phoenix. Their instructors fly a lot and they pay pretty well I think. I was offered a job there about a year ago but decided to work across the street at another school.

I work as a CFI at Sierra Academy of Aeronautics, in Atwater CA. All of our students are Chinese. The school would probably be willing to help you with your CFI, if you take a decreased pay, but I'm sure you could work it out, because we are in need of instructors just like you. You can work and live right near the airport, rent is cheap($150/mo) and the pay is actually not that bad. Hope that helps, let me know if you need any more info.

Hey Moonwolf, i do need some insight of Sierra, which is indeed on my list, can you tell me more about Sierra base on your experience there, like....
1. how does the schedule like?
2. how much pay should i expect?
3. you mentioned that the rent is cheap, do you mean the one provided by Sierra?
4. how about MX, are those a/c in good shape?
5. does the owner or cheif pilot a good guy? consider that this would be my first job in this country, and i don't have anyone to count on here, just try to avoid any sneaky type of operation.
6. if you don't mind, how long you have been CFI there? do you have a good time working with Sierra??
7. how is wx over there, foggy during winter?

I think they're still in business, but haven't heard from them in a while. I used to work there, and it was a pretty terrible job. It might be a last resort, as management was incompetent/abusive. But it was in Tucson Arizona, and I only canceled maybe 3 times due to wind. If I recall correctly the pay was a mix of salary and hourly.

But if you do go, do no believe anything the owner Eloy says, he is full of ****.

Do you mind if i ask why you choose to work across the street instead of Pan Am, since you said they pay well and fly a lot?

And how do you think of them by observing cross the street??:D

I interviewed at the place across the street first and got offered a job there first. Also, the old management (when it was Pam Am) wasn't very nice to their instructors. It's probably different now that they have new owners.

When I interviewed there, Pan Am offered to pay for my CFII and MEI if I took a lower pay rate and signed a 1 year commitment. You'll get a ton of hours there and lots of multi time if you have all your ratings. The language barrier is hard to deal with...but it sounds like you should be ok.
