LOL

This is probably the funniest "lifestyle" thread I've seen.

I've never been there, but the website says that 17% of the students are female.

Facts and Figures about Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Given also that a random sample of females would produce very few cover girl models, don't expect to meet your wif there...:D

On a more serious note, you may want to look into why only 58% of students graduate within 6 years.

Is that statsitic on their website somewhere? I didn't see it.

Even so, 6 years is not uncommon for engineering students getting Bachelors of Science degrees these days. I did mine in 3 years but I knew guys falling back a year or two because they would get a D in a course which was not allowed. Also, you have to realize a lot of students do coops and internships which take several semesters. I didn't do that either. So if they are still not graduating after 6 years it may mean the program is really tough, but I doubt that it means they are getting jerked around by the curriculum.

Aerospace engineering can be tough stuff. The one thing you have going for you though is you know you have a darn good job waiting for you if you graduate. You also know what suffering is all about! I spent many a sleepless night running computer code, doing lab reports or cramming for tests. I swore I would never do it again when I graduated. It just isn't worth it for me since I was 35 when I started, but I think young folks are a bit more tough. They said AE grad school was even worse so I got out when the gettin' was good.

My bad. I didn't realize it was one of those funny links. If you click the STUDENT DEMOGRAPHICS tab on the right, you see the data.

There are girls at Riddle? I didn't see any when I went there:rolleyes: ........

If you are talking about Daytona... I can tell you a little: Avoid Doolittle...as far as parties go.... SAE threw some decent ones... I grew up around there so I had a lot of friends at UF and UNF... so we usually just flew over there and spent the weekend... they have much better college life. If you are an engineering major...those parties will kill your GPA...trust me... I never had to study for thing in High School... but in the AE program... I didn't know anything I thought I did! Even the first semester! Take your GPA seriously!

If you are 18... the highschool across the street has a few STD free ones....DSC (Daytona State College) has a few more...and a little older....Spring break can be fun...

Just remember one thing if you want to get a girl in Daytona....drop the whole "I'm a pilot" line...most of these girls will know it before you can tell them.... maybe it's the "I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning" t-shirt... I don't know... if they ask, it's ok to tell them, but don't be that guy that tells everyone.... I met my wife while I was working at Olive Garden on ISB (she was from out of town) during school so it can be done.

If you are getting your ratings outside of Riddle, PM me... I can hook you up with some good guys at a decent price.

ERAU is more or less a giant nerd convention for 4 years (5-6 for Engineering, like cubdriver said!)

I can only talk about Prescott campus. I did it in 3 years. I did an internship even with graduating early. When I went, the the campus was 13% girls but it is going up fast. The girls aren't hot. In fact, their is about 1 girl in an entire class that is hot and she knows it and uses it to her own advantage. As far as parties, I pledged a fraternity my sophomore year and it was the best thing for so many reasons. A fraternity was a great way to have so much to do while you are at college. It's not for everyone and you have to find out which one is best for you. Believe it or not, I went to college bashing frat. guys but once I saw how it was and how the brothers were, I really enjoyed it and joined.

PM me if you have any messages about the AZ campus and I will try to answer.

I am an intern right now in Houston. Will be graduating this December. I did ERAU in 3 years also which is not a bad way to do it when it comes to cost savings. I did my private and instrument and some basic classes before I got there and have probably spent about half as much as a 4 year guy who does all his ratings at Riddle.

I do have to admit...they rip you off on the flight training. They claim its the best anywhere but when you get down to it...why pay so much more for the same thing that some other guy you might fly with got for half the price at an FBO? Having both instructed and flown at 4 other flight schools, I can tell you that ERAU is not perfect and there are many advantages at other flight training facilities. They go to extremes on their checkrides to...most of the check pilots are ridiculously meticulous when compared to a DE and Riddle has an extremely high overall fail rate for checkrides. I guess they still havent figured out that this really hurts their students later on. Even better...I have found it to be quite hillarious that the 737 checklist at the airline I am interning with is shorter than Riddle's Cessna 172 checklist as well as the 737 flows are less complicated, and has much fewer emergency memory items than the 737. I never realized how complex and difficult it must be to fly a Cessna.

The degree is great, you learn alot from your aero. science classes, and they help you out alot with internships and such. I really enjoyed the classes and professors. Just do as much as you can before you get there and don't let them sell you their "amazing" flight trainnig department. Its overrated.

To answer your question about college life...it is well said above. I go to College Station, TX all the time and can tell you that life in Daytona does not compare in any way shape or form to the fun life in a real college town.
