It is kind of like going to bartending school.... in the real world you don't need it.
Fly somewhere else.. you'll thank me later!

Yes, you can major in something other than Air Science and still fly. I appreciate and value the education that I received at ERAU, however that was 21 years ago. I majored in Air Studies w/aoc in Air Transportation Management....my entire cost for 4 years of tuition, books, housing, and meal plan was 25K or a little less. I recently visited Riddle and found out that the average cost per semester for a non-flying degree is 20-25K. Do the math.
I'm not going to advise you not to go to Riddle. The experience of a higher education environment dedicated primarily to aviation in and of itself is unique. Would I trade mine? Not on your life. However, I will say this....count the cost. You may want to consider attending a lesser known, less expensive, closer to home type university and fly at the local flight school/FBO.
Whatever decision you make, I wish you all the best.
Blue skies.

Not quite sure if it's 20-25K for non-aviation. I went through the AS program and averaged around 15K a semester. Still expensive, I know. But, I've enjoyed my time here and would go back and do it again, although the location would be different. Do whatever you want to do. Just know that you will come out of this school with a lot of loans to pay back.

Riddle is pushing 35k a year now non flight, around 50k with flight.
Times were good for me there, but thats a little pricy in todays economy.
Find another school, and use that money you would of dropped at Riddle and flight train at a local FBO.

The small FBO here in Minneapolis where I instruct is charging 120/hr for a early 80's model skyhawk, no gps or new radios. A 1976 Duchess is 190/hr. with same 70's avionics.
The school is for sale, and business is down at all FBO's.
I wonder if universities like ERAU will have to adjust their prices down, like the rest of the economy? Are wealthy families going to continue to write that check each year? And for those taking out loans, have you seen the furlough numbers from the airlines?.
How could anyone in their right mind take on that kind of debt to become an airline pilot, or corporate pilot. What do companies in a bad economy do? Get rid of the jet....
