Sorry to hear this. Is this area that they mention a common training area for all local flight schools? Any type of standard deconfliction plan in use?

Usually a known local frequency for informal deconfliction. Some CFI's don't bother though.

Never pass up a discrete freq! This would be ashame if it could have been avoided with a simple radio call. So this is an area that all local flight schools go to for training?

Terrible. RIP.
This practice area is close to ours. I am always on the practice area frequency and swinging my head around. Some students that switched to me from other instructors said that I am one of the few that uses the frequency. If you fly in the area between Sebastian and Stuart, please call out intentions on 123.3
Keep your heads outside and fly safe.

That's very reassuring and good to know.

Extend that area all the way north to TIX on 123.3. As a former FIT student and instructor I know how busy our practice areas become too! We've all probably had that moment where you're so busy teaching/learning that you look up to your suprise to see someone a little bit closer than you would like.

BTW the media got an AWESOME witness in that miami hearld video. I hate the media when it comes to reporting about aviation.
