Default Looking for a new fulltime CFI job

Hi folks. I have worked as a part time CFI/CFII/MEI at a reputable university for 1.5 years (~480 TT, 30 multi). I graduated with a degree in Math and Computer Science this December, but when I applied for the full time position, I did not get it. To make a long story short - this semester, I didn't get one of my students done when my boss felt I should have been able to. Therefore, I wasn't offered the job for the Spring semester. Before that, things were great, and I was teaching tons of private, instrument, and commercial students as well as coaching the flight team. However, since I am graduated now, I am looking for a full time position elsewhere to pay the bills. I would prefer to work either in Illinois or in one of the surrounding states at a university. A big factor is getting access to multiengine students too. I have briefly looked at opportunities that meet these criteria, but I was hoping to get some ideas/experiences from you guys at places like Purdue, U of I, SIU, etc. I am just trying to get a good feel for what's out there.

Thanks!

Ive been in the same boat for a couple of months now.

What Ive been doing is going to any web site that has a breakdown of flight schools by state. Find a school, take a look at their web site and history, and then toss in an application if it looks good to you.

Im not overly optomistic about major universities hiring, so you may just want to find a place with a twin and try to work it out there.

Best of luck.

At Purdue, there is certainly no shortage of multiengine time for the full-time instructor. There are 2 Seminoles that are put to good use every semester; 4 Arrows for the instrument and advanced commercial students; and a Flight Team to boot. If you're interested, shoot me a PM!

I wrote in another thread that is Purdue specific for anyone that is interested. Feel free to ask any questions. There will possibly be 1-2 full time spots open starting in the summer. However, in this market 500-1000 TT with all the CFI trimmings won't get you very far here. There are at least 10-15 of us graduating in May that have those qualifications or higher, and none of us have anywhere else to go for work. Unless all of the new graduates are sick of this place, expect hiring to be VERY competitive for full time spots.
