ATP or Mesa Program?
Hi All,
I have zero flight time and want to be a pilot. I have my bachelor's degree already and have spent the past 15 months working as a flight attendant for Mesa. I'm wondering, would it be best to go through ATP to get my ratings or MPD? I know that there is a lot of Mesa hate, but I already know the company, would keep my global seniority, etc........and by the time I get out the pilots will have their new contract (block or better, line guarantee, and 10 days off a month for reservists). What would you do?

All ATP
I was actually considering ALL ATP. But, would I have enough flight time to get hired anywhere if I finished, or would I have to flight instruct for a while? The reason I brought up Mesa was a friend told me that one of his friends got royally screwed at ATP??

The MPD program will promise you an interview when you complete the course. This doesn't amount to much since the airline isn't hiring and they have pilots on furlough.
It's an expensive course which in the end doesn't give you a job at the end of it, of course not many do.
The FBO route is a lot cheaper albeit longer.
My advise is to reconsider your move in becoming a pilot right now, wait until it looks like things will improve for pilot hiring and pay scales.
Good luck.

P.S....never plan on a pilot group signing a contract, especially a good one! JO has a long history of playing games and using delay tactics when it comes to the pilot group.

No, you won't have anywhere near enough hours to even be considered anywhere, especially now. You will have to instruct or take an odd job until your hours are several hundred, maybe even close to 1000. If you do ATP, you should have enough ME hours, but it doesn't hurt to get as many as possible after either program. either route you take will be very $$$,$$$.¢¢. Good luck with your journey!!

you will hear this about EVERY company. I went to ATP and got the royal treatment. everyone has different experinces. Check them out and see for yourself. try to go to an interview w/ATP, and get a few students while they are away from their instructors/management and ask them what they think of it. I loved it, and some people I was going with hated it. I guess w/ATP, you will get out of it what you want to.

I'd save your money. Get your ratings through an fbo, work your FA job until Mesa leaves you at an outstation someday because they can't get gas to bring you home and build your time the old fashioned way. You aren't going ot get a job flying for regional anytime in the next 3 years any way and thats if you are lucky. There are a lot of 2500+ hour pilots out there looking for something and they are going to scoop up the jobs.
Just my .02 but you are going to be an instructor which is a good idea. That way your FO won't have to tell you how to do basic things like getting a clearance at 4am from a remote in the middle of nowhere. Yeah, that happened a Mesa with me and a Mesa grad. I was the FO.
