I'm assuming you're on the left coast. I got my ratings in Florida and Alabama, so I wouldn't be much help.

I'm n the North East... I got plenty of miles/hotel points, I'll go anywhere for a reasonable price. I think I found a good place in Wiconsin, quick and cheap. Thanks guys

I would also recommend Avdenture Seaplanes. J3 or a 172 is a lot cheaper than aircraft such as a super cub, 180, or 185 that other opertaions run. The guys are great to fly with, they teach you a lot, and the equipment teaches you a lot about float flying (172 at max gross on a July day on a small lake/pond). And as previously stated the Checkride was a breeze and the only checkride that was laided back and enjoyable that I have had.

If you you have the chance to go to MN for a few days you will not regret it. It is without a doubt the most fun flying you will do.

I got mine over a weekend in September at Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Winter Haven, Florida. Jack Brown's Seaplane School, Winter Haven, FL

It is $1,200 to add on the ASES. It includes 5 hours of dual and the fee for the checkride. You will have to pay more if it takes you longer than 5 hours, but if you are regularly flying then it shouldn't take longer. And I agree that it's the most fun flying that you can do!

is it true u trim a decent instead of flare for landing?

ufgatorpilot 01-13-2009 06:43 PM

No, when I did it we actually set the trim at the beginning of the flight and never touched it again. I did it in the J3. You definitely flare when you land! On takeoff though, you don't rotate. The plane just flies off the water.

That must be a weird feeling, specially when you been rotating since day one. I do like the part about not using the trim.

I got my rating at the Philadelphia Seaplane Base in 3 hours. about 600 bucks total with the examiner fee, but that was 10 years ago. Great people to fly with.
