Messed Up on Private Checkride!
Hello fellow pilots
I, like most of you here, plan (or at least hope to) fly for an airline someday. And after reading up on all the info available to me, one of the huge things I got out of that was this: all checkrides (whether private, instrument, commercial, etc) stay on your record for good, and if you mess up one, the airlines won't look at it and smile.
I mention this because I just attempted my private ride today and messed up my crosswind landings. I'm planning on taking that part of the ride again before the week's out, but what I'm worried about is the fact that a busted checkride never goes away no matter what. in your opinion, what does that say about my chances about getting hired by an airline?
sorry if it sounds like I'm whining, but like I said, I'm very worried about what this will do to my future.

Not a big deal, crosswind landings are tough. I wouldn't worry about the long term. As far as flying for the airlines...and nothing against those guys, ( I have several friends who fly for an airline) but the state of the airlines is pretty sad. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Absolutely agree. It'll soon be the distant past. Now if you show a consistent pattern on messing up then there will be problems; otherwise it's trivial.
Heck, most of us aren't worth a damn at crosswind landings either. You'll fit right in.

The PPL checkride is the least significant one career-wise, it should not be a problem for you. Generally, multiple checkride failures (3+) will attract unwanted scrutiny, so try to avoid any more busts.

I would have done a go around if things didn't look good during the approach. Try not to bust any other check rides, especially ME or Instrument.
Yup. Failed by CFI initial too, bounced on a short field landing.

Don't worry about man, no big deal. Lots of people including my self have busted check rides and it does not matter. People get wrapped around the axle about failing a ride and honestly the only ride that matters in your career is you FO ride at the airline. When I passed my FO ride the examiner freezes the sim on my last landing and said "son, you know what that dashed stripe down the middle of the slab is?" I responded " sir it separates the slow lane from the fast lane." he chuckled and shook my hand. They will ask in your interview if you have busted any check rides and you better be honest with them because they will find out. You tell them what happened, for example in your case, during my x-wind landings I did not ______________, I went back up with my instructor and practiced took the test again and passed. Don't make excuses just give them the facts. Have fun flying right now and enjoy building time and learning to fly, it is the best time you are going to have, JUST BE SAFE.
