Found an instructor...
 

Ok! I have found an instructor :D . Yippppeee!

He has suggested that I buy a "PPL flight kit" for about $200-300. He stated that he would instruct me from the syllabus. Can anyone give me some info on the type of "kit" my instructor is referring to? I'm going the Pilot's Shop at Naples Airport and see what I can find.

Btw, we will be flying out of Marco Island Airport. He mentioned that the a/c have dials...no glass. That's cool.

Someone told me about www.sportyspilotshop.com (which I've seen advertised on APC I believe)... seems to have good PPL resources, I've checked the site out. Haven't bought anything though... so take this with a grain of salt...

Hey good luck with the training! I'm sure that there are plenty of folks here that will happily offer advice along the way!

FWIW, I used to teach using the Jeppesen syllabus and private pilot kit and thought that it was pretty decent and well put together. However it's probably worth noting that a teaching outline and training kit is only as good as the instructor- it's always better to have a highly competent instructor and no syllabus over an incompentent instructor and the best materials in the world. A good instructor can always overcome the limitations of teaching aids and syllabi...

There are several training systems available... Jepp and Cessna are common, but you really want to use the same one your instructor has. Better ask him...

I teach the Jepp syllabus as well, and I would recommend it. Comes with a textbook that will teach you lots of the aeronautical knowledge you will need to know. You get a logbook, maneuver book, plotter, e6b, PTS, practical test question bank, syllabus, and a few other random things. It is something like $250.

I really like the Jepp book.
