Recommendations for schools in Atlanta
Hi there. I'll be moving to Atlanta next April when I get out of the Navy. I've done some web searching and found a few schools in the area that looked promising. Does anyone have any recommendations for schools in the greater Atlanta area? I'd be doing my comm, instrument, multi, and CFI, then eventually instructing.
How about traffic? I head it's pretty atrocious. I'll be living in Midtown and going to school at GA Tech. Not having to fight traffic to get to a flight lesson would be an added bonus. Thanks all for the help! |
As a GA Tech student, you'll be eligible for membership in the school's Yellow Jacket Flying Club. You can earn all your ratings there, single and multi, and can sign on as an instructor with the club once you have your CFI ticket. The club flies out of FTY, which is about 20 minutes from campus. The club website is http://yjfc.org (our "new" light twin is not yet on the website).
The YJFC is by far the least expensive place to fly in Atlanta, because we're non-profit. Basic 172 rates currently start at $78/hour wet, and instruction starts at $26/hour. The twin isn't on-line yet, but we're hoping the rate will be in the $150-180 range (we're shopping for insurance right now). PM me if you have any questions -- I'm the Assistant Chief CFI. (For others reading this, YJFC membership requires current or past affiliation with Georgia Tech -- student, faculty, staff, or immediate family thereof.) |

Great instructors and owner, good airplanes, flexible, laid back operation. Did my CFI stuff at American Flyers @ PDK...great people also. |
