ASU v Embry Riddle
 

Hello,
I have two options for going to college and they are Embry Riddle and Arzona State. I have a tuition waiver for ASU and accepted into the Barrett Honors College and the flight program. At ERAU I have the Deans Scholarship. I am hesitant to attend ASU because I would like to work for someone besides Mesa. What airlines outside of Mesa would be hiring from the ASU program.

don't worry about the Mesa program. In fact, last time I heard, Mesa was going out of business but don't quote me on that. I might be mistaking it with another airline. Either way, just because its a bridge program does not obligate you to work for Mesa once you graduate, you get your ratings just like every other pilot. Airlines don't really care where you got your ratings, it might give you and edge, but it won't disqualify you in any way.

ASU is a party school, completely opposite of what you will get at ERAU, let alone at the Arizona campus. ERAU is small, quite and completely lacking of girls and therefor, any sort of partying would be at a minimum. ASU has allot of girls meaning allot of noise and alcohol. It all depends on what you wan't out of a college experience.

With your academic record, why don't you consider majoring in something that is not aviation? you can just minor in aviation. That way, you receive all of your ratings but also receive a degree that is not totally useless outside of the aviation industry. Just a thought.

Man, go to ASU. You'll thank me later, and you can work wherever you want(assuming they are hiring).

Im a riddle grad, DAB not as bad as the one in AZ. But I suggest you minor in flight if want it or fly off campus. And major in something else and get that whole college experience. Riddle being so centralized in what it does you really dont have much of a college experience, or campus life.

I cant believe your even comparing the two schools! If you wanna go and have touch and go competitions and aircraft identifying contests then go to Riddle....but if you wanna get a real college experience and fly at the same time then go to ASU. Also FYI you dont have to go to Mesa just because you go to ASU, try to get your flying done fast and then you can instruct your last 2 years of college and go elsewhere. I graduated from ASU last May and before things tanked I had a buddy go to Horizon and some of us had interviews set up with ASA, Eagle, Comair and of course Mesa:D but well we all know what happened with all those jobs/interviews. If you have any ?'s feel free to ask...

This was the exact decision I made back in my day. I chose Riddle.

What are you looking at for a university? Size? Social life? Class setup? Price? Environment?

If youre answer is "I just want to fly"...then knock out some community college credits first and flight train at a local FBO. Flying is a game of hours, not who has the better degree. Youll be saving a lot when you transfer for your upper classmen work and spend less time and money at the college of your choosing.

A degree in aviation to me (in retrospect) is pointless. You have the certs to fly a plane and what did you learn in school? Planes. Pick another degree where you can hold a conversation with someone who isnt a pilot (thats my biggest pet peeve about Riddle...)

Also remember...its ASU, but its ASU East. Youre 20 miles from the main campus.
