What is the process of being JAA certified once you are FAA trained and certified?
|
The all process can be found on a document called LASORS from the CAA.

Lots of study! AL |
The exams are not hard if you do study. But the biggest issue next year (well apparently) is the conversion process for the IR. An applicant will be required to undergo the full course ---> $$$$$$$

LASORS: LASORS 2008 | Publications | CAA
If you are not sure of something, contact the CAA by phone. They usually pick up right away and will answer any questions. Getting JAA licensed based on a foreign license is NOT a conversion. We use this term but it is not a conversion per say. You still have to pass the written test, do some training (depending on your experience) and pass skill tests. It is very expensive and you pay for ANY services you use. If you do plan on converting to JAA, I would also highly recommend to do it NOW. Things are changing quickly across the pond and not in a good way for any foreign licensed pilot. I cannot emphasize more on how a pain in the a$$ they can be. If I were to do it again, I would do everything in Spain or Switzerland. Forget UK. Standards are the same - it's all JAA. What's the difference? Moucho $$$. Switzerland (you need to check this - am not 1005 sure) does not require any additional flight training like the CAA requires - this will save you a lot of money. It pretty much a straight shot. Spain is also cheap. Flying is cheaper and any fees are a fraction of what you would pay in UK. You pay examiners about 150$ versus 800$ in UK. The list goes on - bottom line it is a lot cheaper for the same ticket. I finished everything in Spain and was beyond happy with what I got for my money. A lot of pilots in Europe are going there now for training. Something to think about. |
