Any takes on American Flyers CFI renewal??

Yes, call your FSDO and verify they'll have someone there to sign you off. It took all of 10 minutes while I was there. Oh yeah, avoid any known "break" times and "lunch" times. It will be a ghost town during those hours.

You can go up to 3 months early and still keep the same expiration date, which is always the month. Early is always better than later!!!!!!(And I'm a procrastinator, so I never follow my own advice in this regard). I've cut it too close several times.

I went to American Flyers the other day to inquire about getting my PPL an the place gave me a bad vibe. It seemed like your just a number to them and $$$ and they will do what it takes to push you through the program... It was also VERY expensive. I was quoted $10,500 for my PPL with 25 hours of ground school and 35 hours with an instructor and 5 hours of solo. I don't know a whole lot about this field since I am a newbie but that seems expensive to me?
Are you effing kidding me that someone expressed an interest in flying on a pilots message message board in the flight training area during a discussion about CFI renewals and NO ONE bothered to at least answer beyond to basically say "Umm yeah this subject doesn't pertain to you"????
I hope someone PMed some info, maybe directed thenm to the correct forum of at least say "Heya, welcome..got questions ask away!"

Bumping an old thread:
I've used the American Flyers online course for the past three renewals. I just logged-in to get started on renewal number four and completed the first section.
Is the format no longer time-based? I seem to recall in the past you had to be logged in for a predetermined amount of time in each section before you could take the test. Based on what I saw in section one, that no longer appears to be the case.
Any recent experiences renewing with American Flyers?

I just did it a few months ago and it didn't seem to be time based. Or maybe it was because I putzed with it over about a week so it was not an issue. Just finished the modules, Etc. and followed the instructions. I chose to go the FSDO route as, in my situation, it was actually easier. Otherwise for $25 AF will take care of that for you. All you do at FSDO is sit with inspector for a few minutes, log onto IACRA and done deal. AF has a help line for any questions, BTW...

All the online courses are time based. I just finished AOPA's course, and they mandated I take "mandatory elective" courses since I finished up too early. Believe me, they keep track of how long you are logged in, and working on the sections. Otherwise, piece of cake. Prefer the online over the walk-in courses.
