Degree Then Flight Training Or Vice-Versa
 

I had a talk with a counsellor from RAA today, and their program seem well bound. Maybe I can complete the accelerated program (Except the CRJ rating -- lol) then work on my degree while instructing part-time and pay back some of those loans or should I complete my degree then get back into flight training and move on from their? That is a long time to wait though (4 years... damn!!). What do my online boys have to say about this?

Well I am working on my degree right now, and taking lessons. I don't know if this is possible for everyone to do but it seems to be working right now. This summer I hope to be a CFI so I can start paying and working up for the regionals.. I would do both...

I will be doing both, training (eventually CFI work) and working on a degree.

You need to do a lot more research than just talking to an RAA marketer on the phone. Search the net, talk to folks that have gone there, and go visit the place in person before you commit a dime.

Personally, I think the best way to go is small flight school while going to college and instruct your last two years. Could be tough depending on your major and how hard college is for you. I was set up to go this route but chose the wrong college/area to do it at, so it didn't work out too well.

Well, that fianancing isnt here in Canada, always pay as you go. With RAA, i could eventually work and pay that back off once im liscensed. Well the counsellor didn;t seem to b.s. He recommended other options as well since he is an ex airline pilot. So I took his other advices, listened to his RAA advices and put 2 and 2 together.

Salesmen was being pre-emptive and suggesting you look at other places...He knows you'll go home thinking he's your friend because he didn't use high-pressure tactics, told you to look at other places, threw out the I'm an ex-airline pilot line to build credibility w/ you, and he knows you'll come back to your first choice - RAA, the soft touch always works...

If my understanding of his location, and nationality is correct, ATP won't accept him. ATP doesn't accept international students due to the long winded background checks that are required, thanks to TSA.

Of course I could be wrong, and he may not be Canadian. :)

HE could get the ball rolling on the background check...

I hear you on the TSA - talk about a organization with zero leadership...
