ERAU distance learning?
 

Hey All, first post on APC and must say love the site!

Just wondering about finishing a degree online from ERAU? Do airlines view this as a lower degree or is it on par? As well as are there any other schools that will give you credit for past college and/or Licence held?

Currently flying BE20 and BA32 in Canada and have too many things (House, Wife, Car, Wife, Kid, Wife, Student Loans, Wife) to pay for to stop working and go back to school. However it seems that degree is very sought after now even here in Canada.

Not looking for smart Ass ERAU posts, just wondering because there's not much in Canada for this kind of thing.

I did my last 3 years at an extended campus. They have them on military bases all over the US and the world for that matter. You actually did attend classes. Online classes at Riddle didn't exist when I went through. Online courses seem to be gaining acceptance all over, so I don't think it would be an issue. My ex GF finished her degree online through the Univ of Phoenix and worked harder than I ever did going in person.

Ya, alot of guys here in Canada are doing that. I know an couple flight instructors that have been going for that online degree like water! I doubt anyone would look down on it though, I havent heard of such cases!

I don't think that airlines will look at it as a lesser degree. All they want to see is a four year degree. I know a lot of people who have done or are doing online degrees at UVSC. A lot of them are in the airlines.

The ERAU distance degree is the same as the campus degree. They both cost too much $$$$$$$$$$$$. Get your distance learning done from another good accredited college. Spend the rest on beer and flying. :D

I received my degree from the extended campus. The cost is actually a lot less than attending the main campus. (Regardless of what Ottopilot thinks!) As far as it being a lesser degree.... the diploma comes from the main campus in daytona beach and makes no reference to the extended campus.

I only know of the Master's. It was the same or more than the classroom. That was a few years ago. Maybe they lowered it? I do know from experience, but I threw the info out long ago. Not worth it.:eek:

ERDL is $185 per credit hour. 120 hours to graduate. ($185 x 120 = $22200). On top of that they give you 34 credits free for all your ratings. (120 - 34 = 86 hours x $185 = $15,910 plus books) And they give credit for training if you make it to a regional. Sounds like a good deal.

Same here and when I went through(finished 8 years ago) you could finish a lot of your general ed requrirements(economics, history, etc) at local community colleges and transfer the credits for free! It was a significant savings over going to Daytona or Prescott. Got 36 credits when I hit 1000 PIC and was rated through MEI at the time. Fwiw.

The only requirement is that you need a minimum of 10 classes through Embry-Riddle. I took 11 ER classes through distance learning, was credited 36 credits for the ATP and the rest through community colleges. The entire B.S degree cost me about 13K and I finished up in 1999. This is a great program and I would recommend it to anyone.
