FlightSafety Type Rating Question
Has anyone ever gotten a type at FS? I'm scheduled for a 14-day initial type next month, and was wondering if class goes thru the weekends or if its a M-F deal. I'd call but they're closed today. Thanks!

Depends. I've got 3 type ratings from FSI. All were scheduled to go Mon-Sat but if we got through things fast enough, we skipped the Saturday of ground school - basically just taking the test friday afternoon. One time we had a very slow student and we had to go the whole time...hope for the best. Usually your "type ride" is on Saturday unless you can get FSI and your company to agree to combine sims and shorten the syllabus by one day.
What type rating and which location??

Try not to slit your wrist.
They turn a 1-2 day event into 5 days. As far as weekends, I guess sometimes they do but most of the stuff I did was M-F.
As to their instructors, most all are very book knowledgeable about the planes. I felt like their 121 people were better than there Part 91 instructors. There are a lot of instructors from various backgrounds, I felt like only got the odd balls or rejects but I know there are good ones in there somewhere.
I've been there for airline sims, corporate recurrents with their people and King Air "initials" with their people. If this is Part 91 you might want to ask this in one of the corporate forums.
If its 121 then just know their instructors teach multiple airlines on the same airplane, including foreign carriers, so you need to know your airlines stuff down pat to ensure you are not taught something contradictory. My regional airline initially used to put new hires with Flight Safety instructors for their initial stuff sim flying, if they were taught something wrong it was still the new hires responsibility so they still failed. Study, help yourself and them out.

Nothing like Thanksgiving in NYC or HOU or.... with a good FSI book to read. Hope you get the time off to spend with your family, I know their instructors will prefer the same.. If it is in HOU, tell AG that I said hello..

Airline guy and former FSI instructor here.
As others have said, it depends on the program you are going through. If you are going to a 121/135 class, FSI will build the footprint your company wants, following your work rules. If you are going FAR 61/141 it will be a standard FSI footprint, usually M-F for the ground portion and straight through for the sim work.
Why don't you call the FSI facility you are going to attend, ask to speak with the program manager of the plane you are going to train for and ask them what footprint they have scheduled for you. They will be able to tell you straight up what to expect. Have a good time!
