passed PPL checkride
 

Passed my checkride this morning. It was a great experience. The examiner was very nice and laid back, I felt very relaxed during the oral potion. I was extremely nervous and stressed out prior, but he seemed to be very understanding and tried his best to keep me at ease. It started out well and of course I didn't get every question right, but I was able to think about it, and give a "practical" answer to some of the questions. It worked out wonderfully and he would explain and even go into greater detail...

As for the flying potion, we started off doing some pattern work which included simulated soft field, and short field landings. Again as the flight progressed I felt more relaxed. We broke off and started on the cross country. After the first check point, we started off by doing a power off stall. I was amazed that I didn't lose more than 100 feet, I leveled right at 3000 in no time. That was good enough for him. Steep turns also worked out great. On the steep turn to the right he cut the engine and I selected a field. I had no idea that there was a grass field very close to the field I selected, and although the runway was no longer in use (yellow Xs) he wanted to see if I can make it. I entered a left base, no flaps, explained to him why, and then added full flaps on final, yes I would have made it, okay go around. Did some ground reference maneuvers, and it was time to go back to base. While I was setting the 430 to go back to the airport, I had lost 200 feet!!! So glad I caught it and started an immediate climb and let him know what I was doing. Only after we shut down did he tell me that I passed, what a feeling!

Yeah! It cost me an arm and a leg, but well worth it!!! I am planning on going on a couple of cross countries and jumping right into the IR. I shouldn't take too long because it would be very difficult to get back into learning mode if I did slack off.

Congrats again. It will definitely not hurt to get some good VFR flight time in there. Aircraft handling and situational awareness really begin to gel and things start to click given some real-world hours outside the training environment. That serves well once you go under the hood.

Besides, you might as well enjoy flying where you want to fly and looking out the windows for a bit while you can. :D
