141 training expiration
 

I looked briefly through Part 141 to see, but I did not see any information on this. Does 141 training ever have an expiration date? For example, a student completed part of a course, left for an extended amount of time, and wanting to complete the course. Does that training ever become void due to time?

It shouldn't, Didn't at Kent State, we had a couple people go off Medical for a while and a couple Immigration hangups with the TSA and those students were able to continue with their course when they could come back.

But don't expect to finish in the quoted time. You'll have to get the rust off and get back in the game and that takes time. The longer you are away the more it costs to get back to where you were.

The way part 141 is written, they have to mainatin a monthly listing of enrolled students.

It was generally interpreted to mean that if you did not train for more than 30 days, your training had to be terminated (by filling out a form).

But if you came back later, you could simply be re-enrolled (with another form).

Kent just kept people on unless the Registrar told us they were Expelled. There were some open training folders from students I was sure had graduated. I was never told about the enrolled student listing.

Aside from some exceptional circumstances (the school losing the 141 certificate, for example), I suppose there is no true "expiration." With the curriculum we use, we have three classifications of students (active, inactive and terminated). The student was listed as inactive, so it would be my understanding that all it takes is reactivating the student and continuing (with the appropriate review, of course). Thanks for the feedback.

Only time it would expire is after you have already taken an "end-of-course" stage check for a particular course of training. The end of course certificate of completion is only valid for 60 days from the date of completion of the end-of-course. If you don't take your FAA checkride within those 60days after your EOC, you simply just have to take another EOC and receive a new grad certificate.

Different schools will have different procedures for "terminating" a student's training prior to completion of the EOC depending on what that schools individual FAA approved policies are. Generally done in a letter to the school from the student or in a form as mentioned earlier. That way it's in writing just in case little johnny doesn't tell his parents that he's terminated training and Johnny's parents call the school three or four years down the line wondering where all their money has been going and why Johnny still has not soloed.
