Is K-State at Salina a good choice?

I was looking at going to K-State at salina. For out of state students it is a grand total of around $105,000. Their students get 20 hours split between a citation and a king air. You get all of your ratings as at embry-riddle. In state tuition is around $65,000. Does anyone know if this is a good school for this field?

I have been knocking around in Wichita the last few years so I know or have flown with several grads from the program although I have never been there personally. I had a student who had obtained his private and instrument there, and he was quite capable. It's a good enough program from what I can tell, and all of those involved speak positively about it. PM me with a contact address and I will put you in touch with one or more of them.

I know Bill Gross, one of the professors there. Great guy, very sharp. It's a good program. But being young, single, and having lived in Wichita for a few years in my 20's(which to me sucked bad enough), I can't imagine spending nearly half a decade in Salina...now K-State Manhattan is a different story! :)

Don't Go To K-state Salina

As a K-State Salina grad I will say that the aviation program is a decent one and that I personally got close to 20 hours in the King Air and CJ. That being said, if I had to do it again I would not go to K-State Salina. Get your bachelors in another field other than aviation and do you're flying on the side. Having all of my check rides with Bill Gross, except my CFI's, and who has been an instructor myself I would not wish upon any of my students or anyone else’s students, good or bad, to have to take a check ride with Bill Gross (this being said I never failed a check ride either). If you want to know more about my experience and some others experiences both in state and out-of-state students send me a pm. Thanks.

Go CATS! (Manhattan)

Well, I never flew with him...haha. I met him through other aviation contacts. Too much of a hammer?

Save your money, let the military train you. You'll be richer in the end. Don't get a degree in aviation anything. Get a degree in something that will put food on your plate while you're on furlough.

look at UCM in Warrensburg, MO.

ive heard that thats the 'rival' school.

but like others have said, get a degree in something outside of aviation for your fallback/real career.

only thing i know about them is from this years NIFA competition. They all seemed to be pretty nice and the planes they brought were nice as well. However after driving through Salina last year i dont know about spending 4 years there.
