Forget about AF...Take yout money to ALLATPs - you'll get the same piece of plastic with FAA written on it and lots of ME time. ATPs also hires their students to CFI for them. If you're flexible you can build quality time and move on to a regional...

I'd only be giving you a ballpark, and it depends on your current flight time and whether u'd do part 61 or 141, but you'd probably be looking at around about 8-10k each for ira and commercial, and about 4k for the cfi academy in pmp. the prices may bd a little more than at an fbo but the training is great and as far as the cfi academy goes it's really tough to beat the deal when you consider what you get.

Some AF facilities have twins, some don't. Just ask your local office. We had a couple of Beech Duchess (Dutchi?) in DFW. AF is expensive, but in my case, it was the cheapest way to go. I would have done ATP but they don't take the GI bill so AF was actually less money out of my pocket. By the way, I got my ME rating and MEI there.

Hello Aussie,

Are you still a CFI at American Flyers? I am an A&P looking to start the flight training side, and spoke to a guy named Rick who was in charge of the internship program....
Do you know any body who is or was part of that program? Is it a worthwhile deal and as good (or bad) as it seems?

Any info would be appreciated
Thanks!
Barry

I am sorry that you had a difficult time at American Flyers. We try to provide a structured enviroment, which promotes learning.

Yes, I have always told students the average cost of the multi is $7,000, but budget for more. This way students that need additional training do not run out of tuition before the training is complete.

Hopefully you have reached your aviation goals.

Ian,

Why does AF charge $7,000 for a multi rating? That is the highest price I have ever seen anywhere in the US. You can get your Multi along with good personal instruction and the checkride fee for about $2000 at few places.

Use to work at AF, not worth the cost period.

You are asking why a Marriott or a Hyatt is more expensive than a Motel 6 .?? The answer is obviious.........

American flyers is expensive & most of the programs are beyond the reach of common people... The clientale is mostly upper end, elite class who usually prefer quality & service over price....

The multi rating in particular is expensive because they use cessna 310, which is expensive ...

But sometimes you can find great deals on Mariotts & Hyatts as well, so they have a very great program....
The CFI Academy, very reasonablly priced CFI & CFII program escpecially at the KPMP location, which is worth every penny. At least it used to be like that, I don't know if it is still that way. If they still have the same great instructors who taught the CFI academy..

So, if you are on a budget for Multi & instrument, there are cheaper places...

Disclaimer: I am not trying to promote American flyers or put them down nor I am associated with this business in any way... I have just said what I observed with my own eyes.....
