The perfectly manicured resume shotgun mailed to hundreds isn't likely to get you very far. You've got to network, and hit the pavement and start glad-handing.

True statements, my 26 hours of dual instruction as A CFI have all come from shaking hands and talking to people. This has been a good reality check reading all this advice and coming to the realization that the resume's aren't getting me anywhere.
But then again, I had a friend from flight school who was called up by a charter company 5 months after sending them his resume without any feedback. I guess some places do keep resumes on file.

Good to know. I have always assumed "Thanks but no thanks. We'll keep your resume on file" meant it was filed in the blue bin next to the mail box. Although I wont hold out for any of the places I am on file anymore than I already am.

Good luck in your search.

This is extremely good advice, and it is not just true in aviation. It is true EVERYWHERE! Meet people and build a network. It's all about who you know. And if you don't know anyone, then make a cold call or go walk in and introduce yourself...

I'm flying up to an airport this Wednesday to do just that. Hopefully that will produce something network wise and if not, I just got to make a fun short flight!
