CFI looking for work like everyone else

I just graduated and have minimum hours (300 hrs total, 20 dual given) and am looking for a full time flight instructing job. I am lucky enough to hold a part time flight instructing job right now, but really would like a full time job. Does anyone know of any flight schools hiring or what the best site is to look for flight instructing jobs that does not cost money?

I'm also a recent graduate in May 2009 and a flight instructor with about 85 hours of dual given. I've used the boards like willflyforfood.com findapilot.com etc, but no real luck...

What I have noticed is if you just hang out at the flight school everyday, you will meet so many people who are all potential clients for you, not to mention aircraft owners.

Best book I've read about making money as a CFI...

The Savvy Flight Instructor: Secrets of the Successful CFI
by Gregory N. Brown

Goodluck dude

I'd say that I got the job I have now with 50% networking, 40% luck and 10% skills.

My flight time nearly reflects yours to within a few hours and I've been asking the same question for the last few months. I've been staring at the boards to no avail and am finally realizing that staring at the screen likely won't ever get me anywhere.

I've started cold calling and have been checking in with commercial air operations at the local airports with much better success than the internet job boards although I still don't have a job secured yet...hopefully that will come soon with enough ambition.

Start asking face to face, what have you got to lose? With enough luck and initiative, we'll both be working for flight schools or other air operations by this summer.

Flight Safety Academy in Vero Beach, FL is hiring. They are pretty busy. Just hired one class and plan on another one shortly.

We've got a stack of instructor resumes an inch high. I imagine it will be like last year..hire EVERYONE then start the bi-weekly firings.

Yes there is if you have 500 total time and a CFI-I. If your total time is 250, your resume won't really stick out from the bunch. If you only have 10 hours dual given go there in person and impress. Show them that you can teach. Get some former students or even the CFI who trained you for your CFI to write you a recommendation. If you made your own lesson plans bring them too.
