Getting my PPL?
 
Hello all, new to this forum. I am in the process of starting to get my PPL. I have scheduled a discovery flight for next Wednesday, and I know I'll love it. Have flown in many different aircraft, small and large, and even a helicopter. I just wanted to know what to expect from the course.

The aviation center near me only offers the 141 course for the PPL, is this something doable for someone who works full time? I am a little concerned about my weight as well, is there a wieght limit for the cessna 172? Money is not a concern, but I'm hoping to be able to complete the course with less than 75 hours before the checkride, is that pretty atainable? Thanks for all your help

Flight training is best done if you can fly 4 or 5 times a week. If your working full time your going to have a hard time doing that. If your only going to fly weekends it's going to take longer and cost more. Summer is coming so maybe you can fly in the evening after work but you will not be sharp after working all day. The fact is most people don't have the luxury of taking their flight training as a full time job. You can do it, but be realistic about the investment in time and money. Good luck.

weight isn't a problem unless you weigh over 350 pounds, and that would only be overweight with full tanks and an average sized instructor onboard. The only thing is it may be a little tight across the cabin. I hope you don't mind me asking, but how much do you weigh? Also part 141 training would be tough with a full time job. It is possible, but your motivation must be through the roof in order for that to occur.

Thanks for the help so far. As to my weight, I'm 6'3" and right at 300 lbs. Would be flying a Cessna 172 or 150, depending on what is available. I was also able to find another school that might offer the part 61 training at a lesser price, so that might be preferable. Thanks again

It is seriously nice to hear you have realistic expectations of the hours needed. As others mentioned, make sure to fly at least a few times a week, and schedule a little more than what your goal is to account for weather issues.

Yes it is possible to do with a full-time job. I flew before work, after work, during weekends. The only downfall is that you will be busy and sometimes exhausted too. But it is a blast! Good luck!!
