Flight training

I'm looking at starting my aviation training towards my PPL and I am very passionate about aviation. I would like to ask opinions on training programs in my area (Northern VA). My long term goal is to be a flight instructor and then regional.

I would also like to know your opinions on necessary and essential gear, such as headsets, radio, GPS, etc.

I already have a BS in Criminal Justice but would like to use the VA GI Bill later on in my training. I have read that the GI BILL cannot be used towards a PPL correct?

What can the GI Bill be used for as far as flight training or education?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The GI Bill cannot be used for your Private cert. It can be used for any Part 141 cert or rating after that. With that said, all your training under Part 141 GI Bill covers 60%, which you front the money and after the cert/rating they will repay you. Now, that was under the old bill, not sure about the new one MGIB. As far as equip, talk with your flight instructor and other students, get their opinions for what works with the type of equip flown.
Good Luck with your endeavor, enjoy, and ask questions.

I believe that you can use both the ch.31 and post 911 GI Bill for PPL as long as you can find a school that offers it as part of a Bachelors or Associates degree. I will be doing this for the upcoming fall semester maybe summer. This flight school local to me partners with 3 community colleges in the area. They all provide an associates degree in aviation science wich takes 2 years and includes PPL, CPL, and instrument rating.
I'm pretty sure you can use either forms of the GI Bill appoaching it this way since the flight labs are part of the curriculum.

check out aviation adventures in manassas (HEF) and leesburg (jyo). they have a good fleet, great prices and great instructors. they do 141 and 61.

for a headset, i think everyone would recommend a david clark, unless you can drop a g on a bose, but at this point, those extra hundred dollars would really help towards your training.
