May be overpriced
hello! I'm in a flight school in FL and about to enroll in the CFI, CFII program they have which costs around $20-25K. I know I will receive good bases but I'm afraid it is way overpriced considering the industry's reality. The days where a CFI had 5 students are no longer here(correct me if I'm wrong) and its sad because for young aspiring pilots like me there are limited resources for time building and progress. Please I need some advice, I am trying to spend the bucks wisely...

CFI and CFII should be less than 8k

Run as fast as you can! That's absurd. I'd love to see a breakdown of the pricing on that one.

are there really CFI jobs out there at all? the only good thing is the probably hire you for instructing after passing this courses, an interview and a standards class. So I'm afraid of going somewhere else and not getting a job at all. I will look into the program and tell you more about it. As for the "run as fast as you can" I already have my Adidas on stand by. thank you for posting

8K still sounds way to expensive for a CFI/CFII. 20K+ run as fast as you can.

You can get it done for $3,000 to $6,000. You are right though, you probably will not get hired after you get your CFI or CFI-I. If you are willing to spend $20,000 or more, go to a cheaper FBO and get it done for a lot less and spend the money saved on whatever flying you want to do.

thanks for the postings I am making important decisions about my career...I have a friend that paid $16K for CFI and CFII

I find the idea of a "standards class" insane. We just trained you to be a CFI but we don't think our CFI training is good enough for you to be a CFI so we're going to train you some more. That right there would have me doing a 180.

Ludicrous. You will regret it for the rest of your career if you blow that kind of money on instructor certs.
And no MEI??? That's beyond crazy, for that kind of money you could buy several hundred hours of ME time which is going to be critical if you want an airline job. What did you pay for your CPL? Remember that the airline industry is no longer likely to provide an economic return on any training investment. Assume that training money is flushed down the toilet, so it comes down to how much are you willing to pay for the privilege of being a CFI? $3K-5K is reasonable for CFI/CFII. |
