You should stick with the school you're at. No reason to go to an "airline academy". Yeah, I know, they have really cool websites and promise this and that. Trust me, it's really not necessary to go to one of those places to be successful in this industry.
I'd recommend a degree in something outside of aviation if you have other interests. Don't feel at 15 you gotta have your whole life planned out. I know it's hard cause I remember thinking that way. Just have fun, stay healthy, don't hurt yourself, get good grades in school, and fly as much as you can afford. |

If you are interested in heavy metal, again the Air Force is still the best opportunity. Get a degree, pursue civilian flying, and look into the air national guard...that is one of the best kept secrets in aviation because you join a particular squadron that flies a certain aircraft type, so you get to choose your aircraft. If you want fly fighters, join a F-16 or 15 squadron, heavies go for C-5, C-17, C-130. No risk of helicopters on this route. Also you can get a regional job and accrue seniority at the airline while doing guard training (federal law). This allows you to accumulate 121 experience while you are punching the military ticket...you will be golden for the major airlines at an early age! |
I'm familiar with heavies from the Air Force too! I live next to Little Rock AFB - with the biggest fleet of C-130's in the world. Those monsters rock my house and school (well, the whole town) everyday. Still, I don't have any interest in the Air Force. I realize that you can log a lot of time for free but I'm just not interest in joining the military. I've always been obsessed with airliners. Also money is - THANKFULLY - not a problem. I'm interested in instructing and wouldn't mind doing that for a few years (or however long it takes) in order to impress airlines.

Just do whatever YOU want, not what all of these other guys are telling you. If you don't want to go the military route, than don't. But one thing I would recommend, is to take your time, you are still young, have fun and enjoy life, also would recommend a 4 year degree from a real university. College was the best time of my life.
