I'd recommend a non-airline type degree, but other than that, free is free. If that's what you want to do, what the heck?

Well, since I live in ATL, and just signed a lease here, I'd love to stay here and go to a local school and attend college. The new GI Bill only pays for flight training via a university with a flight program. Daytona is the closest. I know a degree is a degree, but they do have a pretty impressive flight line, and with the VA picking up the tab I can do the whole program with a multi DA42 (an option, but lots of $$).

Riddle is riddle, but when riddle is free....

This is from someone who got his Private at Riddle, I wouldn't go back even if it was free. Go to a normal flight school where you can get private to MEI in less than 2 years and go to school online or something. Not only will it be allot more fun for you, but you will get a job faster. Riddle is just a waist of time going to crap classes that don't mean anything to your future as a pilot (unless you want to study else other than aviation science). Most kids go to riddle or similar to get the college experience (as crappy as it may be), you don't need it I would think.

I can't use my benefits at a flight school, only a college with a flight program that I attend in person. Otherwise I'd have to pay. So my
options are Riddle, UND, Purdue, etc etc. Daytona is the closest city to Atlanta.

It's kind of my best option. I'm just trying to get opinions.

Could you go to a college for a degree outside aviation and do flight training at a GI bill approved 141 flight school?

Honestly, you'd be no worse off with a degree in unwater basketweaving and all your ratings. I'm trying hard to talk you out of a degree in aviation if your benes would work for something else.

You better do your research pal. You DO NOT get a free ride at ERAU with the post 9/11 GI Bill!

The maximum Flight Fees are paid at 62,000 per semester in FL, Tuition however, is covered at 295.00 a credit hr. If your going to be going to ERAU and using the GI Bill your going to be paying 1,190 for a credit hr so you have to fork up the 895 dollars the post 9/11 GI Bill will not cover. They have the Yellow Ribbon Program you should look into. As far as flight fees go, 62,000 per semester should cover it.
Do your research!
2009-2010 Maximum In-State Tuition & Fees - U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs
College Search - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - ERAU - Cost & Financial Aid

Look into UND... UND is a free ride because they do not charge out of state tuition to veterans. And it is a way better school in my opinon.

I did actually, along with submitting your GI Bill stuff you send in paperwork for the yellow ribbon program which is what covers the additional costs. ERAU openly participate ls in the program and everyone is automatically approved. UND is probably great, but ND doesn't sound appealing, even to fly. And anyonr can enter the flight program at Riddle. A business major, communications major etc, etc. Aero science just gives you credit for your ratings, but you are right it is pointless.

May i suggest going to ERAU for an engineering degree? you can get your ratings simultaneously, probably with instructors from Riddle, in either daytona or prescott. best of both worlds and your benifits will go further.
