Building hours in foreign countries
 

Anyone consider building hours by renting planes in foreign countries where the exchange rate is in favor of the US Dollar?

General aviation in most countries is usually much more expensive than in the US, due to the fact that it is very rare and often heavily taxed and regulated. That's why all the folks from overseas come here to train...

Did you find a country with cheaper airplanes?

Maybe if you own an N registered plane, and used it in a non-commercial way, you could go to the country with the cheapest fuel:

AOPA has had some articles about users fees. They were talking about Europe and how there's a fee for a weather briefing, a fee to file a flight plan, a fee for ATC services, oh, you want to shot an approach this time, there's an extra fee for that.

Most foreign students say it's cheaper to get a ticket to the US, get an apt. for 6 months and fly all day than it would it would be to fly from the airport near where they live overseas.

And since things will be priced in the local currency, the exchange rate won't matter.
