Gaining 5 hrs to instruct
 

I have 255 multi but it's all pa44 time At my new job they only have a dutchess. I understand I need 5 hrs in type to teAch in it. How do I get this? I know a lot of guys just pencilwhip it in. Thoughts? Obviously I don't want to drop over $1k just to pick up a few more hrs multi. And also obviously my boss isn't going to just kick down all that time unless he has to as a last resort.

you can split it with someone......the safety pilot way and since your a MEI your always PIC.

61.195(f) says you may not give instruction for a certificate or rating until you have 5 hrs of PIC in make and model. So you can still do instrument proficiency checks, flight reviews, and give other instruction, it just can't count toward a certificate or rating. So in theory, you can have someone walk in with zero time, and you can instruct them in a twin, just the first 5 hours can't count toward their private pilot certificate. Not that you would do that, but the regulations don't prohibit it.

Ya, that "pencil whip" is so easy to find FRAUD when there is an accident / incident, etc.

I wonder what the insurance company would do? I have an idea... not pay the claim. Gear collapse on landing... pencil whipped... no insurance.... enjoy paying the $100k, the certificate action, and the loss of any meaningful airline career.

I would not teach anything in any twin without a few hours PIC in make and model, even though the regs allow it.

Did you gget hired to teach in the duchess? What did you discuss with the boss regarding the 5 hours. Any sane flight school would give you at least 2-3 hours of checkout in a type you're never flown before. Maybe they can do that and give you a steep discount on the remaining time.

I once worked a school that gave such good employee discounts that it was practical to take a twin on a fun weekend getaway.

...and the loss of all certificates and ratings (but don't worry, you usually get a chance to start all over again after a year).

Just talk to your new school if he'll comp the cost of the plane, and you'll cover the gas.... It isn't costing them anything really to fly the plane, and its ultimately gonna allow you to instruct and bring more revenue for the school.... the duchess is about 50 bucks an hour in gas.... Good luck man...

Ok seriously. How is anyone going to know or find out? Ethics aside. How can they prove I did or didt fly the plane on such and such date?
