Seattle Safety Pilots

Hey all I've been a lurker here for a while and I'm pretty new here but I thought I'd introduce myself in this forum now that I'm past the training and PPL stage. I'm currently a university student at UW going through my degree and getting my ratings on the side. I have 150 hours and my instrument rating and am trying to time build to get to the 250 for my commercial. I have access to a C150 for $69/hr and a 172 for 97 through a small club at BFI. If anyone here is looking to build time I'd love to split costs with someone and go flying sometime (or several). I'm based out of BFI but honestly would be willing to fly to a lot of places if someone were available to split some time and costs elsewhere. Obviously for it to benefit us both one of us would have to be under the hood so we could both log the PIC time so I'd volunteer to do that.:D If anyone is interested feel free to post or PM me.

I found a safety pilot through The Aircraft Partnership Association. I just emailed everyone close to me. He has his own plane but flew safety for me in a club plane. Note that I do not expect the safety pilot to pay toward the cost of the plane. For me the best way to split cost is for the hood pilot to pay all the time so if you fly left seat then you pay. That way you don't care how much time the hood pilot wastes :) And if you refuel when you change seats you won't care how much fuel he wastes, either ;) You might also check Pilot Share The Ride. It is good resource.

Happy flying!

I guess safety pilot wasn't the right term. I'm basically just looking for someone to go fly with and share costs, but since once of us would have to be under the hood in order for us to both log the PIC time I chose to use safety pilot. I've had a few safety pilots and didn't have them pay toward the plane but I'm looking for someone to go fly with a few times a month if possible and share the cost with me to help make getting to 250 a little easier on the pocket book.;) I've actually tried share the ride and emailed a few people but haven't been able to get a response.

I assume that you have already contacted the club members? I am in a club with a large membership and found enough people to fly with by just going through the club directory and making calls. Though I still do not know why someone would pay to sit in the right seat but maybe that is just me.

Another point to consider. If the safety pilot cannot be the official PIC then obviously he cannot log flight time as PIC. My club requires that PIC sits in the left seat and I doubt that they would allow a non-club member to act as PIC. All the more reason that finding another club member to fly with is the best way to go.

Oh, and on the sharetheride site, I did not bother with e-mails. A lot of members put their phone number. Call them. I found a couple of good bites and one actually referred me to my flying club with is very good but very low profile with zero web presence and word-of-mouth only.

What club do you fly with? I fly with Alternate Air.
