Does a 61.58 Check count as a BFR?

Does a 61.58 PIC Proficiency Check conducted completely in an "approved" simulator at a Part 142 Training (Sim) facility qualify to exempt a pilot from the need to accomplish a 61.56 Biennial Flight Review? I am guessing that it does, based on 61.56(d)...........

61.56(d) A person who has, within the period specified in paragraph (c) of this section, passed a pilot proficiency check conducted by an examiner, an approved pilot check airman, or a U.S. Armed Force, for a pilot certificate, rating, or operating privilege need not accomplish the flight review required by this section.

....... but I'm not 100% sure. What do you guys think?

I sure hope so. I have been crediting my PIC checks as BFR's for a long time now.

Yes, it does.

I agree that it should...I would call your FSDO for further verification. That's the group of people who actually matter.

It should, but remember you can get varying answers from one FSDO to the other.

No they don't. One of the great problems has always been FSDOs that make up their own rules.

So let's say you call your local FSDO. The agent you speak to that day says, "Sure it counts!" (just like they did about CFI rides counting).

Then you fly across the country, get into an incident and in that district, they all say it doesn't count.

"Well, Joe at the other FSDO said it was cool," isn't much of a defense, especially when "Joe" either doesn't remember ot outrignt denies ever saying tidenies he ever sait it inorder to cover his own rear.
