Top Flight Schools in the KTEB area...

Any suggestions? I am currently 16 and I know that the minimum for most schools is 17. Since I will be waiting roughly about a year, I will take advantage of that time to research a school that best fits my needs and wants. I hear Air Fleet Trainings System is a decent school but am not sure if they are the best around.

Don't quote me on this, but I think you can start training at 14, and get your student permit at 16, PPL at 17.

You can start whenever you want. Solo at 16 and PPL at 17. Of course, you can fly gliders sooner. I think 14 to solo? Try Blairstown, NJ for Gliders.

I started when I was 15 1/2 and soloed on my 16th birthday. That was cool. Try it. My mommy had to drive me to the airport because I didn't have a drivers license!:D

I'm 15 and I'm in flight training. All the pilots I've talked to always say getting an early start like I'm doing will give me a big jump. You oughta go ahead and get rollin'.

I knew that the minimum age was fairly young but since my area has some of the most congested airspace in the country if not the world, flight schools tend to have a higher minimum student age. I would try to find someplace that has a lower minimum age but I think I just won't get the same flying skills or experience if I fly in a less congested area.

The TEB area airspace is not too bad. You stay low until you're out of it. Learn to fly anywhere, they teach you everything about all airspace. Hopefully they teach not to fly across airline arrivals. I was flying the Shaff5 into EWR in a 767 the other day at 5000' towards Sparta VOR. A Cessna got real close. He moved out of the way real quick when he saw us. :D
He wasn't in any "airspace", but he was on a published arrival path.
