Third, you haven't been paying much attention if you are asking "why are pilots so negative". Read some of the comments and complaints pilots have about the profession.

You are gung-ho about making it to the top and being successful and proving everyone wrong. Well, good for you. However, what will you do for others on your way to the top? Demand better wages? or QOL? Will you accept the first offer at joe-blow regional in a pay to play program in your ambitious climb to the top, or will you strive for better? Probably you'll do the latter, which is how most people go about it, which is why pilots will never get what they want out of the airlines, and why the airlines treat their pilots poorly.

I'm a complainer. I've never set foot in a 121 operation. I'm an instructor who has also done some 135 and Skydiving ops. However, I'm also successful, but in a field not related to Aviation. I wouldn't enter a 121 enviroment for all the tea in China unless things change for the better. I have some self-respect and I try to give others the same. Does my opinion seem negative? Probably. However, it's much closer to reality than dreaming aviation is all rainbows and butterflies. I'd rather give people a dose of reality than sell a false dream.

i appreciate your honesty.. i think it is better to let the beginner pilots what is really going on, then just complaining about the pay..
and what you said is true.. the quality of life goes a long way.. if you cant live well you cant be happy no matter how much money you make.
thank you!

People complain about not getting hired at 500 hours. I had 4,000 when hired at a regional and 10,000 when hired at a major.

Bottom line is, if you want to fly, then do it. Don't give up. It's a long hard road and many don't make it or give up. Then they go on "Airline Pilot Forums" and complain.

Good luck, no matter what you do.
thanks.. it's good to hear some optimism.. yeah i know that people complain.. but what really upset me the most is that people complain and tell others no to go into the career..

Agree 100%. This is something I've been wanting to do since I was knee-high to a duck. Although my possible tenure on the flight deck may be short-lived as compared to some.....for me....it's about the personal achievement. No matter what level of flying I do whether it be instructing or beyond, I know that I'll be successful at it. I have the determination, education and motivation to succeed at this profession.

And if flying doesn't work out, then hopefully it will provide a segue back to my original career choice of airport management/operations. I'll just have to wait to see how things shakeout around the 3-5 year mark after I complete my flight training.

I try not to be negative, but rather give cautious advice. If someone is going in head-first, spending every dime they got, they are going to lose a lot and fast. It's more about educating yourself, and part of that is on both the good and bad aspects of this profession.

For the most part, none of these threads ever really have anything to do with how we feel about the actual act of flying, because obviously we all love that!!!!!

In the end, this is your choice...but mind you this site is full of people who have all started down the path you are ready to go down.

Props to you for putting the kool aid down (wherever you may be drinking it) and actually listening to some differing opinions. In the end, this is what helps you make a more informed decision.

Are they not teaching deductive reasoning anymore in the educational system?

If the evidence says that the sky is blue, you don't walk around saying, "I don't understand why everyone is saying the sky is blue?! It's supposed to be red!"

Do research....evaluate the evidence....come to conclusions....make an educated decision.

Good luck in your decision. If I where getting in today I may not make the same decision I did 20 years ago.
