ATC and Pilot Dialogs?

Hi all,

I am an English instructor and I have a non-native English speaking student who needs my assistance. This student is in flight training now, but would like to study ahead for control tower talk before actually going abroad to learn how to fly. I am looking for real life ATC/Pilot dialog to use in our class. This is to assist him in becoming more familiar with the material before he goes abroad to learn to actually fly a plane. He is now learning the basics through the airline.

If any of you know where I can obtain some real dialogs that would be great. And I am not looking for the humorous side of it, I have found plenty of that through searching Google, but nothing concrete that I can use in our class.

Any information would be highly appreciated.

I think there is software available for that...plenty of native-born english speakers need help understanding ATC comms also.

Live ATC is pretty good, you can target regionalities as well. BOS ground will have you "pahk" next to the DC-9.

English isn't my native language as well. So naturally when I started training it was like gibberish to me. I thought I would never get it. As luck would have it my instructor at that time was Japanese and he understood what I was going through. He recommended liveatc.net. It did wonders to me and pretty soon I knew how to communicate with ATC. Also tell your student to join aopa, at least it's free for the first 6 months. They have an excellent interactive course about communicating with ATC (along with a whole lot of others goodies as well). Flying an aircraft is overwhelming for a beginner and adding ATC to the workload can be exponentially stressful so just like anything else in flying, practice and good practice should do it.

I used one of these during my instrument training and it really helped. Once you know the context (approach, tower, ground, clearance) it reduces the learning curve. You'll need to be relatively close to the airport and have line of sight or you'll only hear the pilot's side of the conversation.

radio shack has them for about 100, but eBay might be a better choice.

Hi all, thank you for your replies.

I assume you mean Listen to Live ATC (Air Traffic Control) Communications | LiveATC.net ?

I should have been a little clearer. I need scripts. Because in class I need to practice with him. The videos will be useful for him to study alone, as well as the liveatc site. But mostly the trainees are not allowed to use the internet while in the company's dorms. They need to stay there M-F without leaving. It's like boot camp almost. So I would like to find some scripts if possible.

I will pass the information along to him that you all have provided here, it is much appreciated and I think it will help him by just getting used to listening to more pilots and ATCs chatting, I think the liveatc site will be the most help when he has time.

If anyone has any or knows where I can get some scripts that would be great.

Thank you all again for your help so far!

I know you can get transcripts of accidents without a problem...

Why don't you just write up your own? It's not that hard to create a made-up scenario and write your own transcripts.

I'm not sure I want to use accident transcripts to teach him... ;)

And I am not that familiar with writing them up. I figured somewhere on the web there must be some scripts or transcripts somewhere, but it seems not... Maybe you guys know them better than I do? Could some of you write something up for me, like a 2-5 minute conversation? That could be helpful, and then I can just go and plug in new numbers or something to them...
