Default ATP and Commercial ratings

I probably should know this but does anyone know if having an ATP automatically covers having the commercial licence? My previous card had MEL, instrument, commercial (and my types). When I got my ATP the commercial part was taken off. The examiner told me that it was implied since I had the ATP and commercial didnt need to appear. Does that sound right? I noticed some of the airlines list ATP and commercial for their requirements so it made me wonder if I needed both to appear...

Thanks

That's what I was told too. "Commercial" and "Instrument" both disappeared.

TipTip,

Your certificate will read the highest of any rating... For example, i have taken my ATP checkride in a Multiengine aircraft, but not in a single engine aircraft, so my certificate reads:

Airline Transport Pilot - Airplane Multiengine Land
Commercial Privileges - Airplane Single Engine Land

The "instrument airplane" portion is removed since ATP standards require instrument proficiency at or above those for the instrument checkride. (IE it's assumed that you can fly IFR in the category aircraft you have an ATP rating for).
